'Pay Fair Or Face Jail', Bosses told

Employers who do not pay the minimum wage could be fined and prosecuted

An enforcement team launched by the UK Government will have the power to fine - and even prosecute - bosses who don't pay the minimum wage.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills announced today they are doubling penalties for low pay, with a maximum fine of 20,000 pounds per worker. At the moment, the minimum wage is £6.50 for over-21s.

Non-payment could result in a boss being disqualified from being a company boss for up to 15 years.

Business Secretary Sajid Javid said:

"There is no excuse for employers flouting minimum wage rules and these announcements will ensure those who do try and cheat staff out of pay will feel the full force of the law. This one nation government is committed to making work pay and making sure hardworking people get the salary they are entitled to."
