Passenger Numbers Soar

More than one million passengers travelled through Edinburgh Airport last month making it the busiest June on record.

475,977 domestic passengers travelled through the terminal in June, while international numbers rose by 11% to 622,882 people.

Bosses say increased services to Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, Nice, Berlin and Madrid with easyJet helped boost the number of international passengers travelling, as did increased flights to Dublin and Rome.

Long-haul routes to New York JFK with American Airlines, a new daily service to Doha with Qatar Airways and the launch of Etihad Airways’ new daily service to Abu Dhabi last month also contributed.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: “We had an incredibly busy month in June with more passengers travelling through than ever before. As the summer properly gets underway we’re anticipating our passenger numbers will continue to grow as people head off on the holidays.

“While it’s great seeing so many passengers travelling through the airport at this time of year, we do realise the last few months have been challenging with issues in security. While we’ve worked hard to resolve these, it’s still important that our passengers help us by being prepared for the security

“All liquids, gels and pastes in hand luggage should be 100ml or less and be in a clear plastic bag. Electronic items, like iPads and laptops, should also be presented outside their cases.

“For those travelling with children we have a dedicated family lane in operation in security to make the process as stress-free as possible.”
