Party Leaders Clash

Willie Rennie, Nicola Sturgeon, Jim Murphy & Ruth Davidson

Scotland's four main party leaders have faced each other in a televised debate ahead of the general election.

Labour's Jim Murphy, SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, the Conservative's Ruth Davidson and Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie took part in a live two hour debate on STV. They were all given the opportunity to put their pitches to the studio audience in Edinburgh and to viewers at home before being grilled by members of the public. The four leaders clashed over issues such as independence, the NHS, prescription charges, jobs and potential coalitions.

Jim Murphy said his party doesn't need the SNP's help to make Ed Miliband prime minister next month. Nicola Sturgeon said she wouldn't rule out the prospect of another independence referendum after the 2016 Holyrood election. The Conservatives' Ruth Davidson ruled out a pact with Ukip. Willie Rennie stuck up for the Lib Dem's achievements in government.
