Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind

Smokers are being discouraged from lighting up in public places to protect future generations from taking up the habit.

The Royal Society of Public Health say smokers should be banned from lighting up in areas such as parks and outside schools.

Pro-smoking groups say that could lead to further discrimination.

It's hoped measures such banning smokers from full view might protect future generations not only from a health perspective but also from the perception that smoking is an accepted social behaviour.

Sheila Duffy, Chief Executive of ASH Scotland, said: ''We would like to see more smoke free spaces because smoke free spaces put cigarettes out of sight, out of mind and out of fashion.

"It means kids dont think this is a normal thing to get into when they grow up.

"We need to protect future generations from this lethal, addictive substance.''
