Open 'Could Bring Millions' To Fife

It's hoped the 'Open Effect' will benefit businesses for weeks and months to come

Visitors to the Kingdom are expected to spend millions of pounds during the Open championships next week.

Businesses are expected to benefit from a six-figure boost to the Fife economy. It is hoped trade will benefit from a ripple effect stretching into the weeks and months ahead.

The Fife stand will be open throughout Open week, with staff on hand to give visitors information about golf and all the other fantastic attractions and facilities the Kingdom has to offer. There will be different activities every day to entice people onto the stand including food tastings with local produce to tie in with Scotland’s Year of Food and drink and the chance to win a short break in Fife.

Councillor Lesley Laird, Fife Council Depute Leader, said

"The Open Championship is a wonderful opportunity to showcase St Andrews and Fife, bringing thousands of visitors to the area and boosting the local economy by potentially millions of pounds. We know from past experience that The Open “effect” lasts well beyond the week, with tourism and golf businesses often seeing an increase in bookings right through to the following year.

"Our focus on the stand will be on increasing this business, encouraging visitors to come and stay longer in Fife, explore the great variety of golf we have in the area and also discover all the other delights Fife has to offer."
