Number Of Scottish Children In Poverty Could Climb

Concerns are raised as it's revealed Britian is spending the lowest amount on supporting youngsters since the 1970s

New research suggests Britian is spending less on supporting children, leading to a warning about the number of kids living in poverty.

Figures from the House of Commons Library show the proportion of the country's total income (GDP) being used for child benefit has fallen to the same level as in 1977.

The Child Poverty Action Group say a family with two kids has lost out on £900 a month since 2010 and that one in four youngsters in Fife are already living below the bread line.

They estimate the figures could leave up to 100,000 children in Scotland living in poverty by the year 2020.
