Nickers In A Twist At Enforcer's Return To Flyers

Fan favourite Matt Nickerson will return for a second season with Fife Flyers.

The 6’4'', 240lbs defenceman from the USA made a huge impact during his debut season, with 301 penalty minutes and a 9 game ban for excessive roughness.

Nickerson, who'll wear number 50 again, has played in the Liiga, Allsvenskan, ECHL and AHL.

The enforcer also took part in the club's community trust, helping raise almost £4000 for CHAS.

Matt Nickerson had the following to say on returning to Fife “I am super excited to be back with the Flyers this season. I really enjoyed my time with the club last season. It will be nice to see so many familiar faces in the dressing room and of course I can’t wait to get back in front of the loyal Flyers  fans.”

Associate Coach Danny Stewart called the signing "a no-brainer".

He said: "Matt gives us a presence on the ice that is irreplaceable. He can play in all situations and is solid for us defensively.”

“We will have a lot of skill up front and he helps with providing those guys with some added space.

"He is a great teammate and a big character in our dressing room. We are excited to have him back and he will play a big part in our goals for the upcoming season.”

Head Coach Todd Dutiaume added: “Matt is hugely popular with his team mates and fans alike. I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone that Matt was a priority for us to have back in the line up.

“He not only brought a physical element to our game that we haven't had in the past but also was relied on in all situations. I think Matt's presence makes the old barn just a touch louder and I hope the fans will be in full force on opening night.”
