New Role For Fife MP

Stephen Gethins MP

One of the region's newest MPs has been appointed to the Select Committee for Foreign Affairs.

North East Fife representative Stephen Gethins will work alongside six Conservatives and four Labour MPs.

He says he'll make sure the Foreign Office is held to account, especially during continued global uncertainty

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Gethins said: “It is a great privilege to have been appointed to the Foreign Affairs Committee. Communities across North East Fife have a long tradition of international engagement from the fishing villages of the East Neuk, to the excellence of our food and drink in every part of the constituency and of course the global brand of the University of St Andrews, our reach goes well beyond our borders. This is particularly fitting as we prepare to welcome the World to the Home of Golf for the British Open.

“It is always good to be able to put North East Fife on the map. There is also a role in making sure that we hold the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to account at such an important time and one of global uncertainty not least in the Middle East and North Africa and in the former Soviet Union. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office will also be taking responsibility for the negotiations ahead of the EU Referendum that will be important to us all. I am looking forward to the challenge.”
