New Raith Boss 'Must Entertain Fans'

Raith Chief Executive Eric Drysdale

Raith Rovers say their next manager must look to play exciting football.

Grant Murray was sacked last night after a seventh heavy defeat of the season, with many fans booing at games at what they saw as a "negative" style from the 39 year old.

Chief Executive Eric Drysdale said the board were concerned too many fans were staying away from Stark's Park, and that "sufficient progress was not being made" and "were not confident things would change" unless they made a change.

First team coach Laurie Ellis will take charge of Saturday's lunchtime trip to Dumbarton.

Mr Drysdale said the decision will not be made before the end of the season, adding: "we'll have a new government before we have a new manager".

Murray led the Kirkcaldy club to the second major trophy in their history in a dramatic 1-0 extra time Challenge Cup win over Rangers at Easter Road in 2013. He also oversaw two Scottish Cup runs to the quarter finals.

But successive sixth-placed Championship finishes were deemed a failure, with the club targeting a fourth place finish.

This weekend's 4-0 defeat to Livingston triggered the 'parting of ways' - it was their fifth defeat by that scoreline season, having also lost 5-1 to Livi and 6-1 away to Rangers.
