New images reveal what a new Fife visitor centre could look like

New pictures have emerged showing what a new visitor centre and community hub in Fife could look like.

Work is continuing on the Silverburn Flax Mill development, with progress on it said to be "good".

A design has now been finalised, with 3D images revealed thanks to funding from Fife Council, as well as the Architectural Heritage Fund and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The former Flax Mill at Silverburn Park near Leven has lain empty with holes in its roof, had boarded up windows, disused livestock walls and old farm machinery lying in its courtyard for more than three decades.

Fife Employment Access Trust, the charity raising funds for the project, is moving into the flax mill centre once it is completed.

A team of more than 30 consultants were taken on by the trust last year to design and fundraise for the multi-million-pound facility.

Meanwhile, £2.5 million is still needed to unlock more than £7.5 million in grants from Fife Council, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other organisations.

The completion date for the fundraiser for the first of the two amounts could be delayed by months due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

But that shouldn't affect when the project is completed, which is 2025.

Silverburn Flax Mill Project Director Brian Robertson said: "This is truly a story of the phoenix rising from the ashes.

"The day after a lockdown in March the number of cyclists and walkers to the park increased five-fold and this year we have seen more than 200,000 people visit us.

"The numbers are astounding as is the affection people have shown for the place."
