New fears for Longannet

SNP Minster wants answers over power station

There are new fears for the future of fife power station Longannet

Last week talks between Scottish Power and the National gride broke down leading to the plant's future being raised at First Minister's Questions

Nicola Sturgeon explained she has written to the Prime Minister to draw his attention to the threat to the Fife plant. It currently costs £40 million pound to connect Longannet to the National Grid.

Dunfermline MSP Cara Hilton wants the Scottish Government to do more, she said

"The workers at Longannet Power Station and their families are sick and tired of hearing the SNP try to simply blame everyone else for the current situation. It is clear to everyone that Scotland’s energy system is completely imbalanced as a result of the SNP’s dogmatic

approach. About 25% of the power we use in Scotland is produced by Longannet and this is vital if we are to keep the lights on when the need arises, as opposed to when the wind blows or water flows"
