Network Rail urges locals to be cautious as activity increases ahead of Levenmouth rail link work

Network Rail has asked local people to be cautious as activity increases ahead of work starting on the Levenmouth railway link.

It's advising people using the disused Leven railway corridor to "be aware".

Since the railway closed in the 1960's, the area has been used by people for walking, running fishing and nature watching.

That's despite the line always being classed as an operational railway.

But the organisation is asking locals to be more careful if they are using the area as there is increasing site activity and a rise in the number of vehicles.

Signs have been installed across the rail corridor, which is around a distance of five and a half miles.

Vegetation clearance has already been done by engineers, while site survey and geological investigations to inform the development of the project is continuing.

There will be more survey and inspection work, with major construction activity set to be started later this year.

It's expected the Levenmouth rail link will be built by 2023.

Graeme Stewart, Network Rail's sponsor for the project, is asking local people to be safe:
