Work worth nearly a million pounds is starting today to improve the area around Glenrothes bus station and the Kino Cinema.

It's hoped that the work will be completed by the end of this year, with businesses to remain open during the time of the project.

According to Fife Council, the following improvements are being made thanks to £900,000 of spending:

  • replacing the footways on upper and lower bus station concourses, Kino Cinema and surrounding businesses leading to the Kingdom Shopping Centre
  • installing new information boards at the bus station and Real Time Information displays in bus shelters,
  • creating a new bus stance
  • resurfacing the taxi rank next to the bus station, and
  • upgrading the street lighting at the bus station and around the north side of the Kingdom Centre

But several bus stances will need to close to allow the works to be performed, but temporary stances and walkways will be created along with signage and timetable information boards.

The bus station works will be carried out in phases, with works starting first in the lower concourse area first and access will be maintained for emergency services and local businesses in the area.
