Nearly 100 attacks per year on Scottish railway staff

Staff on Scotland's railways are being attacked almost 100 times a year.

Figures obtained by Kingdom FM News also show the level of assaults has stayed consistent over the past five years.

In total there were 479 incidents across the network between 2015 and 2019.

Mick Hogg is from the RMT union, which represents rail workers - he wants tougher action taken against culprits:

ScotRail says it has recently introduced body-worn cameras for workers.

A spokesperson added: "ScotRail works very closely with British Transport Police to ensure that Scotland's railway is a safe environment for our customers, and our own people.

"Anti-social behaviour, whether that's physical violence, verbal abuse or any other form, is completely unacceptable and we do everything we an to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

"The safety of our customers and employees is our number one priority, and initiatives such as body-worn cameras are having a positive impact, helping everyone to enjoy travelling across the country."
