National Minimum Wage Increase

The increase will mean a pay rise for 110,000 workers in Scotland

Today sees an increase in the National Minimum Wage rates for almost all employees, including apprentices.

That means that 110,000 workers across Scotland are expecting a pay rise, or 5% of the total Scottish workforce. For the whole of the UK, 8% of workers will get a pay rise.

Here are all the new rates compared to last year's:

The 3% increase in the rate for over 21s is the biggest real increase since 2006. A full time employee working 35 hours will see an additional £364 in their annual pay packets. The new apprentice rate will see apprentices receive £1,037 more in their pay.

The penalty for not paying your employees at least the NMW that they are entitled includes a fine of up to £20,000 and your business could be publically named.
