MSP Voices Fracking Fears

A moratorium on fracking in Scotland will not put an end to plans to extract gas from under the waters of the Forth, that's the warning from David Torrance.

The Scottish Government announced on Wednesday that it's placed a ban on fracking, pending inquiries.

But Cluff Natural Resources estimate there's up to 335-million tonnes of coal under the seabed.

The company says it's interested in eight Deep Underground Coal Gasification Licences in the UK and intends to commence the planning process.

The seabed is currently controlled by the Crown Estate and the UK Government, meaning plans to begin drilling could be approved.

There are proposals contained in the Smith Commission paper to transfer all fracking powers to Holyrood; however that's unlikely to happen until after the general election.
