More New Houses Being Built

The number of new houses being built in Scotland is increasing, according to a report.

The National House Building Council, the UK's largest regulator of new build houses, says the rise was fuelled mostly by the private sector.

More than three thousand were constructed between July and September, that's up by nine percent.

Rates for the period between July and September are up year on year, except a dip in 2012, and the body expects more growth in future.

Scotland Director Malcolm MacLeod said the country has "enjoyed a promising quarter".

He said "Although the principle driver for this increase has been the private sector we continue to work with the social housing sector protecting the significant investment they make in delivering new homes.

“The referendum may have unsettled some prospective buyers but it is likely that the market will now settle

down and the recent announcement on the Land and Building Transaction Tax coupled with the imminent

availability of the next tranche of Help top Buy funding will likely to lead to registrations increasing.”
