Monopoly Could Go To St Andrews

A decision will be made next month on whether St Andrews will be immortalised in a board game.

The town was recently considered the frontrunner to get its own Monopoly board, ahead of Perth, Stirling, Ayr, Falkirk and Motherwell.

A winner will be chosen based on a combination of public support and prominence of local landmarks.

Jamie Lamont, Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, who are making this version under license from owners Hasbro, said previously that St. Andrews was the favourite.

He said: “Each are very strong contenders,” says Jamie Lamont, Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, who are making this Monopoly under license from owners Hasbro.

“So far voting is close with St. Andrews narrowly ahead. Were it to win then we are sure some of the world famous Royals and celebrities who have lived and visited there will feature in some way.

“But everything is up for grabs,” added Mr Lamont.

The board should ready in time for Christmas 2015, going on sale from October, with the board showcasing property landmarks from the winning location. Other features will see the four train stations from the London original being handed over to a ‘travel’ theme. Many of the Chance and Community Chest playing cards will be customised.

Meanwhile a Scotch pie, a kilt and a haggis have been nominated as new playing pieces.
