Money Matters To Fife Students

Students are being encouraged to speak out if they are struggling to pay for a TV Licence.

As term begins and students in Fife make a start to their studies, a report has revealed personal finance is the number one priority for undergraduates, many will be taking on new responsibilities such as a first-time TV Licence. 

Recent research reveals undergraduates would like more support when it comes to financial matters. Whilst some undergraduates (28%) said they have not taken on any debt whatsoever, a substantial 49% rely on financial support from their family. The research, published by Unite Students,  also shows a quarter of students claim to have taken on more debt than they expected, with two per cent of students going as far as using payday loans. 
 
TV Licensing is encouraging students to seek help if they need to be covered by a TV Licence but are worried about whether they can afford to pay for one.  A licence costs £145.50 for the year, but there are payment plans which make it possible to pay in smaller, more manageable chunks, including:
 
·   Weekly cash payments, from as little as £5 a week. Students can pay at PayPoint outlets, online, by phone or text message

·   Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly by setting up a direct debit, or by debit or credit card

Kim Hayman, spokesperson for TV Licensing Scotland, said:

"If you're a student and sorting your TV Licence is still on the to-do list, organise it sooner rather than later.
