Medal Hopes On Day One Of Games

After a spectacular opening ceremony, the Commonwealth Games proper get underway today.

There are 20 gold medals up for grabs in events include Cycling, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Judo, Swimming, Triathlon and Weightlifting

Scotland's 310 squad members are hoping to better the record of 11 golds from Melbourne 2006.

The first hope for a medal could come in the Tollcross pool - Olympic silver medalist Michael Jamieson will compete in the 200 metre breast stroke, while Hannah Miley will defend her 400 metre individual medley gold won four years ago in Delhi.

Jon Doig, Team Scotland's chef de mission, is hoping the Scots can win on home soil:

Sisters Kimberley and Louis Renicks will battle for gold when they take to the mat in the Judo at the SECC.

They'll be joined by fellow judokas John Buchanan, James Millar, Stephanie Inglis and Connie Ramsay.

Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg's wrestling career was cut short due to injury, he says organising the event is similar to competing:
