Man On Murder Charge

Aleksandrs Sokolovs

A man has appeared in court accused of murdering Latvian national Aleksandrs Sokolovs.

The 29-year old was discovered at a flat in Tummel Road in Glenrothes last Monday.

Mr Sokolovs had sustained a neck injury and was found after concerns were raised for his welfare.

Sergejs Samarin, 28, of no fixed abode, appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Thursday.

He had last week appeared charged only with attempting to pervert the course of justice, and was remanded in custody.

On Wednesday he was charged with murder and subsequently appeared on petition yesterday.

He faced charges of murder and assault.

Samarin made no plea or declaration, the case was continued for further examination and he was remanded in custody.

A spokesman for Police Scotland's Fife Division said: "Detectives from Police Scotland's Major Investigations Team carried out a significant enquiry before arresting and charging a 28-year-old with his murder."

In a statement issued by Aleksandr's family through police, they said: "Aleksandr was a very friendly person who loved to travel and experience different cultures.

"He was a loving son and brother and will be missed by all persons who knew him."
