Man Dead, Policewoman Injured In "Tragic" Incident

A man believed to be carrying a knife has died and a policewoman injured in an incident in Kirkcaldy.

It happened in the early hours of Sunday on Hayfield Road - police say the officer was not stabbed and the extent of her injury is unknown.

The 31 year old man's death has been reported to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal service, which has instructed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to rule on the incident.

Police Scotland described it as "a tragic set of circumstances."

Fife divisional commander, Chief Superintendent Garry McEwan, said: “This is a tragic set of circumstances and my condolences go to the man’s family.”

"The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal service are responsible for investigating deaths  in Scotland.

"They have instructed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to lead on the inquiry."
