Man, 53, charged with keeping Fife pub open despite restrictions

A man has been charged with culpable and reckless conduct after a pub in Dunfermline was allegedly still open in the early hours of today - despite restrictions.

Police were called to a venue on Kirkgate at 1.20am and say they found customers inside.

The 53-year-old will be reported to the procurator fiscal.

Fife was still under level two restrictions until 6am today - meaning venues could sell alcohol, but only with a meal, and they had to shut by 8pm.

The region is now under level three, which means no alcohol sales at all and venues must shut by 6pm.

Chief Inspector Paul Dick, area commander, said: "There are currently clear regulations in place which apply to all licensed premises in the Fife area, and I would urge all landlords to adhere to them.

"Officers will be visiting licensed premises throughout Fife to check that they are operating safely, within the current guidelines and anyone who is caught breaching the rules will be held accountable.

"Anyone with information or concerns regarding a licensed premises in your area can contact Police Scotland through 101."
