'Loony Dookers' To Brave Kinghorn Waters

The Loony Dook raises money for Kinghorn RNLI

Hundreds of 'loony dookers' are expected to descend on Kinghorn tomorrow, making a splash for local lifeboat crews.

The annual event sees swimmers jumping into the sea off Kinghorm beach on New Years Day.

It is being arranged by the RNLI there, who are hoping that fundraisers will donate generously.

Event organiser and lifeboat tractor driver Mark Gowans said: "The Dook is a great way to start the new year, and it’s always great to see so many people at the beach. It’s a real community event, and great fun too.

"The lifeboat will launch to look over the event, and you can come along and speak to the crew and find out a bit more about the RNLI.

"If you would like to help fundraise for the RNLI charity whilst taking part, that would be great; however, this is not compulsory and everyone is welcome to take part.

"It costs over £1,500 per year to train crew members, which is funded by events such as the Dook, with people often challenging themselves to take part."
