Life in Prison For Disabled Woman Who Murdered Friend

Tammy Hoggan can not apply for parole for 13 years

A disabled Kirkcaldy woman who stabbed her friend to death has been jailed for life.

Tammy Hoggan, who is 29 and has cerebral palsy, will serve a minimum of 13 years in prison after being convicted for killing Leslie Carrington in December 2013.

She had denied murder during the trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 48-year-old, who has a young son, was found seriously injured at a flat in Melrose Crescent after being stabbed several times in the chest - he later died in hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham, who lead the major investigation into the killing said Mr Carrington was the victim of "a senseless and unprovoked attack from a person who was supposed to be his friend and trusted by him."

He said: "Tammy Hoggan’s alcohol fuelled violent behaviour has left a family without a father and partner.

“My thoughts are with Leslie’s family who have conducted themselves with the utmost dignity throughout this ordeal.

“I acknowledge the sentence handed out today and although nothing can undo the devastation caused under such tragic circumstances, I hope that today’s sentencing will bring some sense of closure to Leslie’s family and friends."
