Levenmouth a political hot spot

Politicians will be flocking to Levenmouth later for one of Holyrood's Parliament Days.

Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick will judge a poster competition at Methilhill Primary School this morning, before the Devolution (Further Powers) Committee meeting at Buckhaven and Kirkland High School.

Introduced by the Presiding Officer in 2012, Parliament Days aim to take the Parliament out of Edinburgh and into communities around Scotland, inspiring local people to take an interest in and engage directly with the Parliament’s work.

Mrs Marwick will arrive at Methilhill Primary school at 9.15 to judge – with David Torrance MSP - the 30 finalist posters from the “My Methilhill” competition for P5 to P7 pupils.  At around 9.45, Mrs Marwick will announce the overall winner and award prizes.

She will return to the school in the evening to host a public meeting (from 5.30) and a Q&A session where local people can ask questions of the Presiding Officer and local MSPs.

In the afternoon the Devolution (Further Powers) Committee will be at Buckhaven High School to meet with 16 and 17 year old pupils from Buckhaven and Kirkland High School to discuss how they felt about being eligible to vote for the first time in this year’s referendum and their level of engagement with the political process.  The engagement event will begin at 13.45 and end at 15.30.
