Leven Rail Campaign Meets Key Business

A public meeting's being held in Methil to get a major company on board with plans to reinstall rail services to Leven.

Malcom Logistics, which deals with deliveries to and from drinks firm Diageo, will attend a public meeting in Methil tonight.

Campaigners believe they have a strong case, saying the link would also benefit Methil Docks and Fife Energy Park, supermarkets in the area, opencast mining at Earlseat.

It's hoped the five mile track to Thornton can reopen to boost Levenmouth, which is the most populated area in Scotland without a train link. The group argues the areas high levels of deprivation could be cut as rail links enhance employment opportunities.

Campaigners say they have a strong case, saying the link would also benefit Methil Docks and Fife Energy Park, supermarkets in the area, opencast mining at Earlseat.

Reopening the five mile stretch of track to Thornton, via Cameron Bridge, would cost at least £55million because the line is still intact. The figure was calculated in 2008.
