Leuchars Businesses 'Need Support' Following RAF Move

Businesses are suffering after the RAF moved from Leuchars

Fife council is calling on the defence secretary to help struggling businesses in Leuchars.

They're facing a loss of trade caused by a gap between the RAF moving from the area and the army moving in.

Following a decision at a meeting of the Full Council last week, Fife Council is urgently calling on the Secretary of State Michael Fallon to respond to repeated cross party requests for help.

Gordon Henderson, Senior Development Manager from the Federation of Small Businesses, says military contracts are "essential" for the area.

"It's one of the main reasons that a lot of businesses are located there in the first place, they are a key source of business.

"We've known for a long time there's going to be a gap between the RAF leaving and the army arriving, this is the gap we're in now. It's not a new call, but businesses there do need some support."
