Labour Focus On Glenrothes

The Shadow Scottish cabinet is meeting in Fife to bring Labour closer to communities ahead of the UK General Election.

Leader Jim Murphy plans to hear from Kirkland pupils about the issues affecting them, before visiting the building site of the new merged Levenmouth secondary school to see how it will link up with fife College to increase job opportunities for youngsters.

It comes as the party struggles in the polls ahead of May's vote and with local MP Lindsay Roy retiring his seat.

Ahead of the visit, Mr Murphy said Labour will:

  • Call time on zero hours contracts
  • Introduce a Living Wage (£7.65 p/h) to give thousands of young Scots a pay rise
  • Increase the minimum wage for all age groups including under 21s
  • Increase fines for employers who fail to pay the minimum wage and improve enforcement

The former Foreign Secretary says they are trying to engage with the electorate in a "different" way:
