Knockhill At 40

Celebrations at the Fife racing circuit to mark milestone.

Britian's best bike racing series, the MCE British Superbike Championship, rolls into Knockhill in less than 8 days time for what will be a fantastic festival of speed; as the cream of Europe’s leading bike racers take to the technical and challenging Knockhill track for three days of full-blown racing action.

All the action kicks off on Friday with a series of warm up, practice and qualifying sessions for seven of the eight Championships competing over the weekend. The MCE British Superbike competitors will take to the track for two 45 minute sessions in order to fine tune their machinery for the twists and dips of Knockhill.

Saturday 28th June will be an event in itself, as all the teams and riders frantically try to find that competitive-edge over their fellow competitors for that all-important pole position. The day culminates in a British Superbike shoot out as riders are eliminated throughout the three qualification sessions, leaving the elite riders to participate in the DataTag Extreme Qualifying session, with that front-row grid position the ultimate aim. On the day, there will also be a BSB Pit Walk, Pillion Rides and support series racing action will conclude the day.

Sunday 29th June is race day. After an intense build up, race day finally offers the competitors the chance to prove who is the best around the tight and twisty Knockhill track. Expect action all the way as Britain's best bike racers compete flat out, at speeds in excess of 160mph, on the 1.3 mile Championship circuit.

This year's BSB event will also see Knockhill Racing Circuit celebrate its 40th Anniversary, with support from Homecoming Scotland 2014 and Fife Council. A special marquee housing riders and racing machinery from each of the four decades of Knockhill will be on show throughout the weekend. A number of memorable machines including Jock Taylor’s World Championship Winning TZ Sidecar will be on display, amongst others.

Knockhill Events Director, Stuart Gray commented:

"With the Circuit celebrating 40 years and the event being officially recognised as part of the Homecoming Scotland 2014 programme of events, I'm really looking forward to a real carnival atmosphere this year, combined with a touch of nostalgia, with our anniversary.

"The British Superbike Championship is the best domestic racing series in the world and l for one can’t wait for the action to start on Friday 27th June."
