Kirkcaldy Foodbank Feeds 5000 In One Year

The Kirkcaldy foodbank is an independent organisation

Five thousand people have relied on a Kirkcaldy foodbank to feed them in the past year.

Kirkcaldy foodbank, which operates independently, has only been in operation for one year. Chairperson Judy Hamilton said: The use of the foodbank has been far in excess of what we had anticipated when we first started."

This comes as the number of Scots relying on food parcels has increased by over 60-percent. That number includes nearly 400-thousand children.

The latest figures published by the Trussell Trust show that over 1,000,000 people have received at least three days’ emergency food from the charity’s foodbanks in the last twelve months, more than in any previous year. The data indicates that despite signs of economic recovery, the numbers of people turning to foodbanks continues to grow.
