'Keep Warm' To Prevent Leaks This Winter

Controlling the temperature of your home can prevent burst pipes

Fifers are being reminded not to turn their central heating on to defrost frozen pipes.

The advice comes as temperatures begin to drop across the kingdom, with many households suffering burst pipes as a result.

Advice on offer includes wrapping warm towels around cold pipework, and repairing leaky stopcocks and ball valves.

Help is available for those struggling with heating bills, according to Fife Council.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Executive Spokesperson for Housing and Building Service, said: "We hope people will have a safe and warm winter but understand this can be a very distressing time for those who simply can’t afford the rising costs we are all facing.

"Whilst we are working hard to work to tackle the problem of fuel poverty in the Kingdom, there is still a huge amount of work to be done to assist households which are having difficulty heating their homes to a reasonable standard and at a reasonable cost."
