Justice Secretary Hosts Summit On Women Offenders

There are around 400 women in custody in Scotland

Experts from around the world are meeting in Edinburgh to discuss how Scotland deals with female offenders.

The Justice Secretary Michael Matheson's hosting the summit to find out how criminals are dealt with abroad.He says he's looking for a 'bold, progressive and more ambitious approach' than what we have at the moment.

Plans to build a woman's prison in Inverclyde were scrapped at the start of this year.

Tom Fox from the Scottish Prison Service says the welfare of women in custody is of paramount importance:
