Jobs Help For Fife Lone Parents

Job opportunities for lone parents were boosted by the scheme

Lone parents in Fife have been given the chance to find their way into work, as part of a new council initiative.

Take The Lead, organised by Fife Council, Fife College and Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), is aimed at combating child poverty and improving support to families with activities ranging from motivational and confidence building, exploring the job market, to preparing for work experience and health and well-being.

Part of the programme involves a two-week work placement, with those taking part securing placements in sectors including telecoms, retail and admin. Three participants have already received job offers.

Alan Blair, Programme Tutor from Fife College, who delivered the Take the Lead course content said:

“My job is such a fun one - I get to show people what support is available and how to connect to supportive thinking and the opportunities available within Fifes communities to support lone parents.

“The programme participants come with such a strong and positive attitude towards change and to making a difference for themselves and their families.  This makes it relatively easy to connect them through the partnership to the support they need for success.”
