Future of Scotland's private rented sector under the spotlight.

The future of Scotland's private rented sector comes under the spotlight today as politicians, key stakeholders, academics and housing sector representatives gather in Edinburgh.

Key topics will include how to create a more secure and stable housing experience for today's private renters, current and future trends and the potential impact of the Housing (Scotland) Bill.

Keynote speaker Dr Eoin O'Sullivan from Trinity College Dublin, will present an address on the Irish experience of increasing security of tenure and the impact this has had on private renters there.
 
Delegates will also have the opportunity to hear from MSPs from across the political spectrum on how they would adapt the private rented sector to better suit today’s private renters.
 
Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland, said:
 
"Scotland's private rented sector has doubled in the last ten years, with families with children now making up more than a quarter of the 300,000 households who rent privately. The current system is not fit for purpose and it is time to rethink private renting in Scotland.
 
"This conference is an opportunity to hear views from across the sector and discuss how we can secure long-term solutions of stability and security, particularly for low-income households and families, and work towards delivering a sector fit for the 21st century."
