Health chiefs confirm coronavirus outbreak at Fife care home

Health officials have confirmed they are dealing with an outbreak of coronavirus at a Fife care home.

A total of 25 staff members and residents at Craigie House Care Home in Crossgates have tested positive for Covid-19.

A statement fro NHS Fife said: "NHS Fife’s health protection team and the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership are working closely with Fife Council’s environmental health department to support to the management of the care home and offer advice to reduce further transmission of the virus.

"Visiting at Craigie House Care Home is currently suspended.

"It is extremely important that those intending to visit residents in any care home refrain from doing so if they feel unwell or have any of the known symptoms of Covid-19, such as a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to the sense of smell or taste.

"Anyone experiencing the well-established symptoms of Covid-19 should immediately self-isolate and arrange a test using the NHS inform website www.nhsinform.scot or by calling 0800 028 2816.

"A local online support hub has been created to provide information on testing for COVID-19 and updates on the pandemic. Visit www.nhsfife.org/coronavirus."

It comes after it was confirmed earlier this week that 31 people in the Balcurvie Ward at Cameron Hospital in Windygates had contracted the virus.

Meanwhile contact tracing is taking place at Beath High School in Cowdenbeath, following a confirmed case there.
