Charity Tackling Guide Dog Myths

A leading charity has revealed that 31% of Scots believe guide dogs can empty a washing machine and nearly half think they can pick up a ringing phone.

The poll also shows that around a fifth assume that the NHS or social care services are mainly responsible for providing guide dogs – a duty that solely falls to charities and receives no government funding.

More worryingly, when speaking to guide dog owners, the charity discovered members of the public often talk to the guide dog rather than the owner.

One guide dog owner explained how a pharmacist asked if the dog should be given his prescription to take away instead of the owner himself.

Guide Dogs is calling for people to show their support during the charity's annual awareness and fundraising week (October 3rd to 11th).
