Growing The Fife Population

220, 000 more people are predicted to be living and working in Fife by 2037, according to analysis.

That's an 18% increase in the population, the second largest in Scotland. A consultation on how to safeguard homes, transport, business and industry has reached the halfway stage.

Launched in July, the consultation on SESplan’s Main Issues Report runs until 30th September, and is the first stage in the preparation of the region’s second Strategic Development Plan.

Depute Fife Council Leader Councillor Lesley Laird, Spokesperson for Economy and Planning, said: “I encourage everyone interested in shaping the future of Fife and the wider region to take this opportunity to have their say on how we can best plan for future growth. Fife Council’s aim is to make Fife a great place to work, live and do business. This consultation provides local people with the opportunity to have their say on how the wider region plans for growth across business and industry, housing and transport.

"It is essential that views from across all the local authority areas in South East Scotland are voiced to ensure that the Strategic Development Plan is informed a wide audience.”

The South East Scotland Strategic Development Planning Authority, SESplan, is a partnership of six member authorities including Edinburgh, Fife, East Lothian, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian, working together on strategic development planning matters.

SESplan's key role is to prepare and maintain an up to date Strategic Development Plan for the South East Scotland area, and this involves engaging communities. The Main Issues Report asks key questions, the answers to which will shape the way the region looks, feels and functions for decades to come.
