Glenrothes: Human Remains Discovered

A police presence is in place at Riverside Park, Glenrothes

Police are investigating the discovery of human remains in Riverside Park.

The discovery was made shortly before 4pm today. Officers say it’s not possible to tell if the body is male or female at this stage. A full forensic examination is currently underway.

Chief Inspector Stevie Hamilton of Police Scotland at Glenrothes said: “Whilst the investigation is still at an early stage we have made contact with the next of kin of a number of local missing men from the Glenrothes area to make them aware of this discovery. A detailed forensic examination will be required and this will take some time to complete”

Families

Police have informed the families of Wayne "Bagsy" Fleming, who was last seen in February, and Allan Bryant Junior, who was last seen leaving a local nightclub in November 2013.

Mr Bryant's father, Allan Snr, said his family now face an anxious wait for the body to be identified.

He said: "It's either Allan or the other missing man, Wayne Fleming.

"It has to be one of them.

"We previously searched the park before but nothing can be 100%."

Mr Fleming's family have not heard from him since March and police said this week they were growing increasingly concerned for the 39-year-old, who frequents both Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy.

The last sighting of Mr Bryant was on CCTV footage which showed him leaving the town's Styx nightclub alone in the early hours of November 3 2013.

Writing on the Find Allan Bryant Jr Facebook page, Allan Jr's uncle, David Bryant, said: "It could take up to three days to find out who the police have found.

"Allan is in an extremely distressed state."

Allan Sr added: "Skeletal remains have been found in the park but it is too early to identify the remains."
