“I would appeal to any member of the public who can assist or provide us with any information to please contact us, anonymously if they wish.

“There are a few simple measures that everyone can take that will help to ensure that they and their property stay safe and secure during the hours of darkness as follows

“Make sure that you lock all windows and doors when you retire for the evening or leave your property unoccupied. Valuables should always be stored safely out of sight and not on public display.

“Please remember that gardens and sheds are extensions of your home and objects of value, such as a bikes and tools should be appropriately locked away.

“Where possible, consider installing motion-sensor lighting and alarm systems to your homes, as these are very useful deterrents against acquisitive crime.

“Most importantly, however, please ensure your property has a good lock on it and always utilise this when you go to bed or head out for the day or evening.

“Community Officers are happy to provide further crime prevention advice and anyone looking to obtain more information can visit their local police station.”

Dick Jones from the Neighbourhood Safety Group said “Our group is active in the area and our main aim is to get community safety and crime prevention messages across and give people the chance to purchase items of equipment which could improve their personal security or the security of their homes or garden sheds.

“Among the items, which we have available are purse safety chains; purse bell alert bells, personal attack alarms; shed alarms and light timers. “
