GE15: Too Close To Call For Bookies

Odds on Fife constituencies are the closest they have ever been

For anyone wanting a flutter during the general election campaign, Fife is shaping up to be one of the most difficult regions to call.

Bookies are revealing the odds on the candidates in all four Fife constituencies winning a seat, with SNP and Labour so close to call in Dunfermline and West Fife that their odds are tied. The SNP remain favourites in the other three seats, including the traditional Labour safe seat of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, Gordon Brown's former constituency.

According to William Hill, the world's largest bookmaker, the odds of the General Election resulting in a Hung Parliament have now reached the shortest odds they have ever quoted for that market at 1/10In Scotland, Labour are 3/1 to win no seats, with the SNP at 5/1 to win them all. Their closest market involves who will be the next Prime Minister, with both David Cameron and Ed Miliband quoted at 10/11.

Graham Sharpe from the bookmakers said:

"There is going to be considerable wheeling and dealing after the Election and even having the most seats may not be enough to guarantee being able to form a government for any individual Party.

"It looks like we'll be hung out to dry - literally - on this market,  especially with a customer in South West London staking the biggest ever General Election bet of £200,000 with us on a Hung Parliament, and stands to make a profit of £44,444 having placed his bet at odds of 2/9."

Details of all of the candidates standing in Fife can be found on our General Election 2015 pages.
