First minister confirms first Covid-19 deaths since July 16

The first minister has confirmed the first deaths among patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Scotland since July 16.

While there have been some deaths linked to coronavirus in recent weeks, they have only been in people either suspected of having the disease, or in those who tested positive for the virus more than 28 days before their death.

Speaking at the Scottish Parliament today, Nicola Sturgeon said two deaths had been registered yesterday among patients in hospital.

We have asked the Scottish Government if it can confirm the locations of those cases.

A total of 67 people tested positive for the virus across Scotland yesterday, which represents 0.5% of all tests taken.
