Final Vote Push

Kezia Dugdale, Ken Macintosh and the three deputy leadership candidates

It's the final full day of voting in the Scottish Labour Leadership campaign.

Two candidates are standing for the top job - Kezia Dugdale and Ken Macintosh.

Ms Dugdale has already received widespread support from her constituency members, local councillors, 10 trade unions and affiliate groups.

"The challenge facing Scottish Labour is immense. Nobody can be in any doubt about the mountain we have to climb to regain the trust of people in Scotland.

"We must embark on the biggest renewal project in Scottish Labour's history. From how we engage with people in their communities to the way we hold the SNP Government in Edinburgh to account, big changes are needed.

"If I am elected leader Scottish Labour will be transformed to match the ambitions of modern Scotland. The process of renewing Scottish Labour's look, vision and approach will begin straight away. I’ll hit the reset button on day one.

"Faced with a Tory Government hell-bent on making the poorest suffer and a SNP Government that has made a mess of public services like policing and the NHS, there has never been a greater need for a strong opposition holding the establishment parties to account.

"The message I hear too often on the doorsteps is that people don't know what Labour stands for anymore. Under my leadership no one will be in any doubt what we stand for and who we stand with.

"The Labour Party exists to extend power, wealth and opportunity to the many, not the few. So we stand with the disabled person facing terrifying social security cuts, just as we stand with the parent who wants the very best education for their child and those who want to take a chance by setting up their own small business.”

Ken Macintosh, the MSP for Eastwood, is also standing. He's on the campaign trail today and says he'll be targeting undecided voters:

"Today is one of the most important days of the entire leadership contest - not just because it's the final day of voting, but because it's my youngest daughter's first day of Primary School.

My ambition for my daughter's future is what drives my ambition to lead the Scottish Labour Party. I want to offer the Scottish people hope again - I want to transform the Scottish Labour Party into a positive force for real change in Scotland.

Throughout this leadership contest, I have spoken in detail about the changes I will make, about the new leadership style and approach to politics I will bring as party leader.

Above all, my message to undecided members is simple: I'm asking for your support as I believe I have the ideas, the vision and the determination to help Labour win again."

Cowdenbeath MSP Alex Rowley, Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson and MSP Richard Baker are standing to become deputy.
