Fife's Manufacturing Sector Grows

£968m was made in Fife during 2012, that's more than 8% of the total value of manufacturing goods and services in Scotland.

The Kingdom was also one of the top three local authorities contributing to Scottish manufacturing total, which is often referred to as GVA.

Although Scottish manufacturing GVA fell by 1% between 2011 and 2012, Fife bucked the trend and its GVA grew by 1.3% across the same period.

Depute Council Leader Lesley Laird, spokesperson for Economy and Planning said:

“Fife’s strong manufacturing sector provides around 15,000 jobs and is helping play a vital role in the growth of the local economy.

“These Scottish Government statistics show Fife continues to have a competitive advantage in this sector and shows the rest of the industry the Kingdom has a lot to offer their business.

“The council will continue to work with other partners in the Fife Economy Partnership to help sustain this economic growth.

“We’re also working to achieve other aims of the Economic Strategy and our aspiration of making Fife the best place to do business.”
