Fifers urged to register to vote ahead of Holyrood election

Fifers are being urged to ensure they are registered to vote ahead of this year's Holyrood election.

Households in the Kingdom will receive a letter in the next few days which lists people who are registered to vote at that address.

Residents are being asked to check that everyone who is entitled to vote is included in the letter, so they can have their say in the Scottish Parliamentary election in May.

Anyone who is not registered can do so at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or ask for a paper registration form.

Registration must take place by April 19.

Mike Melville, electoral services manager for Fife, said: "This is an opportunity for residents to make sure that they’ll be able to take part and have their say.

"Anyone who wants to vote in the Scottish Parliamentary elections must be registered so if you haven’t already, simply check the letter and register if you need to."

Under current plans, polling stations will be open and following all public health advice - with appropriate hygiene and physical distancing measures in place.

However, there is also the option for people to vote by post. Anyone who is not registered as a postal voter must submit an application by 5pm on April 6.

For an application form, or more information, go to www.fife.gov.uk/postalvote, email voters.roll@fife.gov.uk or call 03451 55 55 11.
