Fifers encouraged to shop local to help with economic recovery from coronavirus pandemic

People across Fife are being encouraged to use their local shops in a bid to support the Kingdom's economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

A new scheme called 'Scotland Loves Local' has launched today.

Scotland's Towns Partnership is behind it and wants Fifers to back local businesses while remaining aware of public health guidelines.

The organisation says town centres are made up of people and harness the compassion and solidarity which was shown by communities when the outbreak escalated.

Firms in Fife and across Scotland have been working with business improvement districts, councils and others to implement arrangements to allow people to shop locally, but safely.

Some of those arrangements include distance markers, the use of screens and signage.

Others are the use of hand sanitiser and limiting how many people can be in one shop at a time.

Phil Prentice is the Partnership's Chief Officer and he has highlighted some examples of towns in Fife which have had to innovate during the Covid-19 crisis:
