Fife Trio Cycle 140 Miles For Gaza Kids

Children in war-torn Gaza suffer trauma and need support

Three men from Fife are cycling from Edinburgh to Newcastle to raise money for children affected by fighting in the Middle East.

The trio hope to ride 140 miles in 12 hours, raising funds for the Middle Eastern Children's Alliance charity - who provide food, toys, hygiene packs and psychological care for children traumatised by in Gaza.

It is linked to the larger 'Big Ride for Palestine' event in August, when hundreds of people will cycle from Edinburgh to London.

Klaus Berchtenbreiter, one of the riders, said:

"To be honest, this is as much about raising awareness of the terrible plight of the children in Gaza as it is about raising money. As a father, ever since I learned that every single child in Gaza has been affected by the war and is in need of some level of psychosocial support, I knew I had to do something to help.

"I love cycling and so do my friends. I was delighted when they agreed that we should take part in this ride, so we can show our support for these children."

Klaus will be joined by Louis Pieterse from Kirkcaldy and Sean Burger, from Cowdenbeath. They will be cheered off from Edinburgh by members of Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign and welcomed to Gateshead by Newcastle Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
