Fife Third For Solar Panels

Fife has the third nighest number of solar panels in the whole of Scotland.

2,994 have been fitted on homes and business across the Kingdom - generating up to 10.2 megawatts of electricity.

It means the area is responsible for more than 7% of Scotland's total solar generation.

Only Aberdeenshire and the Highlands have more solar panels than Fife. Experts suggest all three areas benefit from more space for installations because of the amont of rural land.

But charities and green energy firms are now calling for the Scottish Government to encourage more people to adopt the technology.

Lang Banks from WWF Scotland says there's been a 32% increase in the past year which is welcome, but the rate of change is now slowing: “Alongside energy saving measures, renewable energy technologies like solar and wind will be important to enabling Scotland meet its climate change targets. We call upon the Scottish Government to do all that it can to help ensure Scotland switches on to the full potential of solar power.”
