Fife set to learn levels fate as coronavirus restrictions reviewed

The first minister will announce her review of coronavirus restrictions for areas across Scotland this afternoon.

Fife is currently under level two restrictions, meaning a ban on household gatherings and limits on what hospitality venues can offer.

There has been some speculation that Fife could move into level three, due to concerns over rising cases in the Kingdom.

The seven-day coronavirus infection rate in the Kingdom is114.31 people per 100,000 of the population, which is just below Dundee - where level three restrictions are in place - and higher than Edinburgh, which is also in level three.

However, it is still significantly below the rates in areas of the central belt like Glasgow city (320.95 per 100,000) and Renfrewshire (288.11 per 100,000).

Nicola Sturgeon did hint in yesterday's briefing (see video above) that she was unlikely to ease restrictions in most areas, even where infection rates have levelled off, because she wants to see a sustained reduction in cases before relaxing the rules.

Ms Sturgeon is expected to announce her decisions in the Scottish Parliament some time after 2pm today.

Professor Linda Bauld is an expert in public health at Edinburgh University - she believes a move to level three will be under consideration:
