Fife Reading Challenge Set

Children at Woodland's Nursery get prepared for a record-breaking challenge

Hundreds of children and parents from across Fife are being encouraged to read their way into the record books.

The Guiness World Record challenge involves parents reading simultaneously with their child.

Almost 1,000 people will come together to attempt to break the record.

The record attempt, which will take place on May 19th, is part of the Take Time for a Story campaign, which aims to encourage parents to spend time storytelling with their child in the early years.

Carrie Lindsay, area education officer, explains: “Storytelling with your child boosts brain development and strengthens the special bond between parent and child. We want to celebrate storytelling in Fife and all the benefits families can get from reading and telling stories, so we’d love as many parents and children to come along to help us break this record.

"Not only will children and parents who attend be a part of a record-breaking attempt, but they will also be treated to entertainment from children’s authors Chae Strathie and Tony Bonning. In addition, everyone who takes part in the free event will get a free book and certificate to take home."

Read Your Way into the Record Books will take place on Tuesday 19th May at 10am, at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre.
